ReconciliAction through the meaningful participation of Indigenous owned businesses in the Canadian economy.

Principles of Certification and Commitment

Associate Businesses are non-Indigenous Businesses that will meet the following criteria:

  1. Commit to the principles of reconciliation and UNDRIP, and develop and provide a Reconciliaction plan that includes their  commitment to those principles;
  2. Develop a strategy to priorities prioritize the hiring, training and promoting Indigenous people, and placing qualified Indigenous people on their Board of Directors
  3. Prioritize procurement of businesses, partnerships, joint ventures and other business entities that are at least 51% Indigenous owned, managed and profit shared; 
  4. Create or assist opportunities to support and educate Indigenous Entrepreneurs and youth;
  5. Minimize environmental impacts and commit to reduce impacts, if any;  
  6. Respect Indigenous cultures and traditions, and make reasonable efforts to work with the land-based host Indigenous groups including education and cross-cultural training;
  7. All partner entities are committed to the principles of reconciliation;
  8. All partner entities are committed to corporate social responsibility;
  9. Food related businesses will meet the additional criteria:
    A) All food products are sourced in an ecologically sustainable manner.
    B) All food products are sourced, wherever possible, from Indigenous-owned suppliers.
    C) All food products that are not sourced from Indigenous-owned suppliers are considered traditional Indigenous foods (plants, fish, game).

  • Non-Indigenous Businesses that meet all requirements and are Smudge Certified
  • 1-20 employees or non-profits - $1000 annual membership fees
  • 21-500 employees or non-profits - $2000 annual membership fees
  • 501- 1000 employees or non-profits - $5000 annual membership fees
  • 1001 – 5000 employees or non-profits - $10,000 annual membership fees
  • Unlimited employees or non-profits - $25,000 annual membership fees

Sweet grass

  • Non-Indigenous Businesses that are working toward the criteria required to be Smudge Certified
  • 1-20 employees or non-profits - $1500 annual membership fees
  • 21-500 employees or non-profits - $2500 annual membership fees
  • 501- 1000 employees or non-profits - $6000 annual membership fees
  • 1001 – 5000 employees or non-profits - $15,000 annual membership fees
  • Unlimited employees or non-profits - $30,000 annual membership fees
